Second Rate Incentive Trips Hurt Your Bottom Line
I am sitting here reading the latest and greatest press releases and news from Event Soutions magazine (www.event-solutions.com) and I come across a release that talks about how many companies are resorting to dinner cruises during incentive sales meetings because the attendees can "not escape" and head out to do things on their own.
Companies are now locking in their attendees for the evening so they do not loose them.
I have a thought..........have a better event, whatever it takes. Pick a better destination, increase the budget or ask the attendees what they would like to do.
An event where I am forced to participate, that has crappy food and no appeal truly does not sound like an incentive to me, it sounds like a nightmare.
I am going to return to the office and continue to excel because I like the money my sales job brings in, I like my job or I am simply a great worker. Also, it makes the company look bad when you have a terrible incentive event.
I can just see Jane Q Sales Pro leaving this position and going to a competitor because she feels she was not treated right (with good reason)-- then word spreads through the industry to not work for company A because they do not treat their stars like stars and the next thing you know you have to hire second rate talent and your business suffers.
The next time you plan an Incentive (or any event), think outside of the box. Ask yourself, what is going to make this event truly unique and special and make the people who got left at home want to push their performance to the next level so that they have the opportunity to go on the next incentive (Sales is competition after all).
Just a thought
