Event Planning Technology - Garmin GPS

OK, so we all are used to printing out our nice directions and putting them in our binders. It is kind of a meeting planning ritual and something that needs to be done (if you are to find your way). But, what do you do if you are on a site visit, or at your event and you need to go somewhere now and do not have access to your computer?

Enter the GPS, all around great tool to have. The planners at OnSite Events have been using them in the field for about 6 months and they are now part of how we do business. Client wants to change plans, no problem. We enter the new information and the Garmin (our brand of choice) gives us speaking, turn by turn directions that are surprisingly not annoying.

Getting a signal can sometimes be a bit tricky, but all in all they work great. They are small enough to tuck into a carry on, have a car charger and wall charger as well. Word to the wise, do not let the battery go out and then expect the car charger to help ya out. The car charger keeps it going but will not restore a fully discharged battery.

The Garmin has actually never steered us wrong, and 99% of the time the directions were the fastest route. There are all kinds of extras as well. Have a taste for Chinese? You can simply hit the restaurant button, it will give you a list of Chinese Restaurants and then give you directions to get there.

I am a firm believer in printing my directions before I am wheels up for a destination, but once there these nifty little units can save the day.

Just a thought
