Meetings Industry Terms
I was chatting with an event planner colleague this afternoon and we started to get on the subject of industry terms. There are a lot. A whole lot. So many that it is impossible to remember them all. 86, eFX, A/V, EAP, ETD, Ex, Exclusive, Attrition……..they go on and on.
Some make sense and some not so much. Some make you smile and some make you cower in the corner in fear.
The Convention Industry Council is a great resource for looking up terms and acronyms.
A link to their glossary page is:

This really is a great tool; here is an example of one of the terms and definitions from their site. Hand picked because it is one of those things that many event planners forget to budget for and get killed on the back end:
Drayage: Delivery of exhibit materials from the dock to an assigned exhibit space, removing empty crates, returning crates at the end of the event for recrating, and delivering materials back to dock for carrier loading.
Drayage Charge: The cost of moving exhibit materials within the confines of the exhibit hall, based on weight. This charge is calculated in 100-pound units, or hundredweight, abbreviated cwt. (There is usually a minimum charge for all drayage.)
If you run across a term that you are unsure of, or simply can't remember what a term means this is a great place to look.
Just a thought………..
